1. MARGARITA SALAS GRANTS FOR THE TRAINING OF YOUNG DOCTORS |
1. Purpose:
The purpose of these grants is to train young doctors via training stays at a public university in Spain or overseas research centres, as well as at public research bodies in Spain, as long as the last year of the stay is at a public university in Spain selected by the applicant.

2. Duration:
The grants must start on 1st January 2023 and run for two years, until 31st December 2024. No changes to these dates are allowed.

3. Requirements:
a.Holding a PhD from the UIB. Individuals who have obtained a PhD at a private university in Spain or those holding Spanish citizenship who have obtained their degree at overseas universities or research centres may also submit their applications to the UIB, as long as they wish to undertake their post-doctoral stay here or, in any event, wish to come here in the last year of the grant
b.Two years, at most, having passed between the date of award of the PhD and the deadline to submit applications set out in point 4. Notwithstanding the above, the two-year period shall be extended where any of the circumstances set out in Appendix II 1.i) of the Royal Decree arise
c.Where the grant is requested for stays at overseas universities or research centres, or at public research centres in Spain, the last year of the grant (1st January 2024 - 31st December 2024) must be spent at a public university in Spain selected by the candidate, including the UIB.

4. Application Submission
The period to submit applications over the UIB Research Staff Portal (ppi.uib.cat) will run from 18th July to 5th September 2022, inclusive. IMPORTANT: the application must be submitted in the OTHER PROCEDURES-MARGARITA SALAS GRANT PROGRAMME section.

5. Documentation to be submitted, in Spanish, Catalan or English:
a. Abbreviated candidate CV (ACV from the FECYT).
b. A copy of the candidates' ID (DNI/Passport/NIE).
c. A copy of candidates' PhD certificate or similar document where the date of award is stated.
d. Scientific and technical record of the recipient group(s). The recipient group at the UIB must be an accredited group listed in the research group catalogue.
e. A reasoned report on the impact of this stay for progress in the applicants' teaching and research career (Appendix 1).
f. A document issued by the recipient centre(s) that accepts the applicants' stay at the centre for the requested period and approves it. This document must be issued on official institutional stationary and be duly signed, and be in Catalan, Spanish or English or, otherwise, be accompanied by a corresponding translation into one of these languages.
g. An acceptance document for the stay issued by the department / research institute (Appendix 6).

6. Compensation
The monthly stipend for the Margarita Salas grants for young doctors shall be 3,500.00 euro gross during stay periods overseas and 2,800.00 euro gross for stay periods in Spain, including reincorporation in the last year. These amounts include salary and employers' social security contributions.
There will be an additional one-off payment of 3,500.00 euro to cover relocation expenses.

7. Contract System
Grant beneficiaries shall sign a post-doctoral employment contract for the grant period

8. Justification of the Stay
Beneficiaries shall submit a progress report on the stay over the UIB Research Staff Portal (ppi.uib.cat) every six months, with accredited approval from the recipient group supervisor (Appendix 2).

9. Monitoring Mechanism
In order to monitor the grants, accreditation documentation shall be established to be issued by the host university or research centre justifying the stay dates and activity report undertaken by the beneficiary. Monitoring shall be performed via the information and oversight systems at the General Intervention Board of the State Administration (IGAE).

10. Assessment and Selection
Applications shall be given a score between 0 and 100 points, as per the following assessment criteria:
a. Abbreviated CV of candidate: up to 50 points.
b. Scientific and technical record of the recipient group(s): up to 30 points
c. Reasoned report: up to 20 points.
The minimum necessary score to be awarded a grant is 80 points. Except for highly justified circumstances set by the committee, a maximum of one candidate per area of knowledge shall be selected.
The UIB Executive Council shall select the members of the assessment committee.
